Proper casual Sunday Gentlemen Apparel.  The weather was been sooooooo gooooood lately!  This is what life needed.  Winter is so fucking cold and Summer is so fucking hot, but Spring is always great.  It’s warm enough yet still cool, you have so many options in life and in what you can wear!

I’ve been so consumed with trying to figure out my trip to London in August that I’ve been doing nothing but staying home, eating cheap (no weekly sushi gorge-fests), and missing out on all of the great sample sales.  There’s been some good ones too!  I just got really excited because I found a fairly reasonable flight on Virgin Atlantic, until I realized the price was in GBP and not USD.  FML. Eternally broke until September when I can yet again split all my bills in half!  Until then I’ll continue to be hood rich in Westwood Brogues and Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme hats.

yohji yamamoto pour homme hat fedora

Fedoras really have such a bad rap – nowadays they are often associated with douche bags and fashion disasters like Britney Spears.  Barf, I just thought about all of those white girls that wear them to the beach in the summer time!  Who told you that looks nice?! So many people try to wear fedoras and end up just looking like assholes.  It’s true!  There’s some unmeasurable balance one must find when attempting to wear such a classic hat, I can’t even explain what that is, but I feel like the more you think about it the more you’ll understand.  When in doubt, draw upon the influence of the classic gentlemen of yesteryear, like Frank Sinatra for example.  You can never go wrong with a classic.

In love.  I’ve always had a soft spot/boner for a great grandpa cardigan.  This one is from the Target x Neiman Marcus Collection, which went on sale to 60% off after Christmas.  Yes, the entire collection.  Yes, after I paid full price for the Thom Browne Blazer.  Oh well!  I still love that blazer and I have the feeling if I hadn’t bought it when I did that all the size smalls would’ve been gone and that I just got really lucky with this cardigan being in my size.  You really can never have enough cardigans.  They are perfect!  Easy to shove into a bag, comfortable and so much more fashionable than your average Wal-Mart hoodie.  I think I spent so many years relying on hoodies that I simply can’t wear one unless it has something special to it.  No one loves a basic bitch.

d by d d.kang camouflage collar

This polo, D by D by D.KANG…I had never heard of this label but I checked out the site and really like it.  It’s a Korean based label and apparently the designer graduated from Parson’s in NYC…that’s about all I know.  I found this on a trip to Century21 and have never seen this label anywhere else before or since, which is a shame because the prices are fairly moderate and the designs are sleek with a little bit of edge and go great with about everything.  I’ve been on a weird camoflauge kick lately, it happens once about every 3 years and I start regretting getting rid of my old camo jackets from the thrift store.  Another reason to never get rid of anything, just get a bigger apartment instead!

century21

So the Century21 downtown remodeled and it might be one of the best things to happen ever.  When I first moved to New York I loved pushing bitches out of my way to get my hand son some designer goods and super discounted prices, but after a while it’s like, ew, I’d much rather pay full price and not have to deal with the pushy bargain hunter ordeal.  The renovation made my life so much easier – there’s tills on every floors with actual lines, the menswear department expanded, with all the new space the product isn’t jam packs on the rails.  Overcrowded rails have got to be the worst.  You go to see something, it stays stuck between a million clothes, you pull it out, it’s usually ripped beyond repair because this is what everyone has been doing for the past week.  Ohhhh, its the worst.

I hadn’t been to Dangerfield’s comedy club in forever, so I took my mom when she was in town.  I do love a beer and some stand up and it’s even better when I’m doing it in real life and not in front of my television.

So let me tell you about my morning with this blazer.  I love it – the fabrication is superb, the quality is high (I mean, it’s from Target and it’s made pretty well), but the buttons….The Buttons!  I wore it one time before this and ALL of the buttons became extremely loose – last time when I wore it I almost lost one in the street.  All of them, hanging by a single thread.  Did anyone else who bought this have the same issue?  It was a quick fix, but still!  One of my pet peeves is a brand new anything with a dangling-about-to-fall-off button.  This is the first time Target has done me dirty, so it’s fine…but next time…let’s just say…Shit whatever I love a Target so I’ll still buy stuff there especially if it’s an ultra great designer collaboration.

For some reason I haven’t put a tie around my neck in a very long time.  You know how you just go through phases in life where all you can think of is one thing?  Lately all I can think of are ties.  It’s funny to think how essential they are to menswear accessories, yet how simple they actually are.  I mean, when you think about it, it’s really just a long piece of fabric that you tie around your neck.  Granted, an actual pattern is used to achieve certain styles and fits, but as long as it was long enough, someone could probably tie any strip of fabric into some sort of tie.  I’m attempting to go second hand shopping this weekend so hopefully I can find some great vintage neckwear – that’s the best way to go for great ties while you’re on a budget because you’re trying to get new shoes from Solestruck.

Oh no.  It’s so sad everytime I wear my Chuck Taylor Converse.  These kids have been though it.  They’re 11 years old, traveled the world, partied many a night and are still somewhat intact, but their time here on earth is coming to an end.  Look at the fucking chunk missing!  It’s really funny to me that you can clearly see what socks I have on through it.  I’m really torn about buying new converse also.  These are pre the Nike buyout of Converse- before they turned to shit shoes that fall apart in a month!  It’s hard to buy a new pair knowing that the quality and endurance of my ol’ boys won’t be present in their successor.  Shame.

hug lifemaharlika

Maharlika is my current food obsession.  It’s fancy filipino cuisine (filipino food is one of my favorites!) and beyond delicioso!  I feel like the prices are pretty moderate, more expensive than a traditional filipino spot, but it’s totally worth it.  I’m actually craving their sisig with a san miguel beer right now as I type this.  If your looking to try something new, this is on the top of my list!  I took my mom on this trip and she la-la-loved it!

nujeans

I finished up my night bleaching up some denim.  I’ve been obsessed with a good bleach splatter lately but have been really restraining myself from dumping my closet into the bath tub and pouring bleach all over it.  These were a hand me down so I can’t feel any bit guilty about doing whatever I want to them.  These American Apparel jeans were a light mustard color and the bleach brightening them into a Kraft macaroni and cheese orange and I have fallen in love with them.  The color reminded me of years ago when they introduced new crayola crayons and this was one of them and it was called macaroni and cheese.  I’m sure some 5 year old named it but it really is the best way to describe this shade of unnatural orange!

LDN2

I’ve been bouncing all over the place! And can’t believe I’m still trying to catch up and post about shit that happened in January.  Today’s post is the last one from my trip to London because I need to catch this blog back up to the present.  Good thing WordPress has an app for androids because if it didn’t I don’t know when I would actually have found the time to finish this post.

The theme song in my head to today’s post is LDN by Lily Allen.  I was looking for the original video forever, all I was finding was the gross version where it feels all stop animationy with her on a bike.  This version is way prettier to look at and reminds my of how London was (in my head.  Like I’m Lily allen maybe.  Minus being a girl and wearing a dress.)  The video below is exxxtra great because it has Spanish subtitles also.

Im back in new york again if you haven’t realized! Well, I’ve been back a while, we just haven’t discussed it.

This was my fly home outfit.  I like to be dressed nice when I fly, I feel like most people nowadays, especially in the states, dress like complete slobs when flying.  When is it ever appropriate to be outside of the house in character print pajamas bottoms with flip flops and an NYU hoodie?  NEVER!  SICK!  GROSS!  If you’re looking for comfort you can always opt for a cotton harem pant and a nice tee shirt, but pajamas anywhere outside of your bedroom are inexcusable, unless it’s a vintage Pierre Cardin pajama top (like the one I was looking at earlier on EBAY) that you’re pairing with some nice trousers.  Anyways, before I get too far off topic…

I didn’t totally plan to go all out with my look for the plane, but I bought too much shit and could barely close my suitcase so I had to wear something bulky as to not go over the weight limit.  I would’ve worn my new hat either, but how else was I going to bring it back if I didn’t just smuggle it on my head?

vivienne westwood world's end alien jacket plaid

My new World’s End Alien Jacket.  Obsessed to the max.  Coincidentally it matches my Alien trousers, but I would’ve bought this regardless.  I’ve seriously been living in this thing since I got back to New York.  It’s a great medium weight wool, I stay warm in it but can also layer.  The shoulders / sleeves are everything that dreams are made of – especially great for the winter when you have on bulkier sweaters.  You don’t have that issue when you’re trying to fetch your sweater sleeve out as it gets stuck at your elbow.  This is a style that they usually have at World’s End and I really, REALLY want to get another one.  Why do I do this to myself?

Site seeingzzzz

I crammed the remainder of my site seeing into one day.  It just seemed easier!  I went to the changing of the guard, which was a messsss!  I didn’t get any pictures of that because it was a mad house and full of evil tall people blocking the line of vision for all my regular height people like me!  I did however get some pretty shots of Big Ben and Westminster Abbey.

Westminster was great! I wish you could take pictures inside.  It’s really interesting, you just walk through tons and tons of tombs in the middle of a church.  The most interesting thing to me was to see how the sculpture style changed throughout the years.  Some were extremely detailed, some almost childlike in their rendering.

For some reason I was ultra excited to see the Jack Daniel’s barrel tree.  The one above is just some random tree in Covent Garden.  The Jack Daniel’s tree is below.  I always see ads about the one in Tennessee and now there was randomly one in London just for me!  I mean, it’s a tree made of barrels of Jack Daniel’s!  Awesome!

I really loved all the prints on the wall, dapper english gentlemen. I hope im that refined when I’m old, refined enough to have a print of myself in a frame at a pub. That sentence sounded way better in my head but I feel like you know what I mean so I’m leaving it.

the breakfast club

Not much to say about this sign.  It’s at a little spot called The Breakfast Club, which I picked for my traditional English breakfast (eggs, home fries, bacon, fried tomato, baked beans, black pudding, white pudding and toast!) solely because of the name.  I mean, the movie was so good you would just expect the resteraunt named after it to be even better!  Not that it’s really named after the movie, but I think it was and I win every time because this is my blog!  Anywho, fucking awesome decor with a full My Little Pony wallpapered bathroom, amazing food and the best breakfast soundtrack. For locations, check The Breakfast Club.

the pigs ear pub

Around the way from the World’s End Shop is a tasty little pub called the pigs ear. You can literally order pigs ears. They taste like pork rinds only way denser. If you’re ever in the area do make a point to eat here, the food was so good and fairly cheaper than everywhere else I ate in London.

One Last Thing.

I finally did it.  I journeyed to my MECCA of Fashion.  World’s End!  The Vivienne Westwood connoisseur’s wet dream!  And I met the mega bodacious Lisa in the flesh!  If you don’t know, Lise basically runs that shit so if you ever need anything, she’s your go to gal.  The worst thing about going into the store was knowing I couldn’t leave with everything.  I did however manage to snatch up a squiggle top, an alien jacket, some earrings, a ring and a sick ass vintage orb chain!  I know, not enough!  I know as soon as my credit card is paid off I’ll just order more shit so for now I’ll just have to continue with my life.  But Lisa, thank you thank you thank you.  You’re a fucking gem!

(Lisa was also sick the week we took this picture and was totally embarrassed that she wasn’t in a smexy dress.  But she still looks cute so she has to live with this picture for eternity.  I on the other hand look like someone’s dad.)

I have to put this little post up now because if I wait to finish writing about going to iceland and other things it’ll become completely irrelevant and it happened over a week ago so its already behind the times. Will I ever finish playing catch up from my trip? Will I get my credit cards paid off this year? Will I find the perfect summer shoe for men that is runway ready, lets my foot breathe and doesnt show off my toes? All this and more on ratherdapper.com.

Finally an occasion to wear my new blazer!  This is from the Thom Browne for Target collection. Its a great medium weight navy wool thats perfect for layering in the winter and keeping you warm but not overheated in the early spring. I’m a huge fan of Thom Browne, but on my current budget his shit it too ‘spensive, so for now I have to settle for his Target designed piece. I wish he had done a whole collection of menswear, but im not complaining! Ain’t no biggie, I love me some Target! But….I’d rather have the good shit.

Vacation time! Vacation Time!  I haven’t had a good vacation for a long ass time and I really needed it! I jetted on down to Flo-ra-da (see here so you understand why I feel the need to spell it that way) for the week to see my ultra best friend Chela Waterfield, celebrate my ultra out of control niece P’s 5th birthday, strut my shit through the Wizarding World of Harry Potter AND get my swerve on with the Disney Princesses.  That sounded like a lot, and it was.

Today’s look is clean and fun, but amusement park ready.  Flo-ra-da is still pretty hot this time of year so I had to break out some shorts.  I also had to do a shit ton of walking so my creeper sneakers were a must have.  I know I’ve said this before or something similar, but a creeper sneaker is a perfect hybrid shoe.  You get all the class of a creeper and all of the comfort of a sneaker at the same time.  Genius.

I had to wear my neon belt because I was feeling too bleh with all the black and grey going on.  Sometimes you just need to throw in a happy color to bring it all together!

tuk creeper sneakers

Unfortunately this was the last time these T.U.K. creeper sneakers will ever be seen.  After getting soaked on some Popeye ride I walked around in wet shoes the rest of the day and the next day I looked at them and they were completely fucked to hell.  Barf.  I’m thinking about how they smelled now too.  It was sick.  Oh well!  The lesson everyone can take from this – Never wear nice shoes is you plan on going on a water ride.  Fortunately for me, these guys were on their last leg anyways!  They had a good run – bought second hand from Search and Destroy, then passed on to me, so they had at least three owners in their lifetime.

First stop was breakfast with the Grinch.  Brilliant.  Green eggs and ham and star shaped hash browns and unlimited bacon.  The grinch also told called me and Chela hipsters and asked us if we lived in Brooklyn and made my niece double fist apple juice.  Perfection.

harry potter

I love Harry Potter so much and have been waiting to go to Harry Potter world forever!  But before I show you all the pictures of how amazing it was let me bring everything back to the focus of this blog: fashion!  Now Harry might not have the most exciting costume of anyone, but his school uniform is a classic.  Let’s break it down.

1) White button down – a true essential that everyone should own.  I have one that I never wear due to the cons of wearing said shirt – ring around the color and staining!  I feel like Harry is always getting into something and thus getting covered in dirt or blood.  Instead he should opt for a nice light grey.  It would protect from stains and still match the rest of his wardrobe!

2) Tie – The best part of a school Uniform.  You can either make it real tight like a true gentleman or pull it loose like a really cool “I sit in the back of the class and blow snot rockets” sort of guy.

3) Glasses/Spectacles – I hate these circular wire frames, but for some reason Harry Potter wears them so well!  Don;t let that give you any ideas…only Harry Potter and a select few human beings look good in this sort of frame.  If you’re unsure if you’re one of them, most likely you aren’t.

4) Cloak – Don’t hate it and would totally wear it if the opportunity arose.

Gryffindor has great uniform colors also.  The burgundy and goldenrod colors are perfect together and just look great.

gryf

So let me tell you…whoever designed this park is amazing.  Imagine how fun it would be to design a replica of a Harry Potter set.  Then you get to tell everyone “My job?  Well I don’t mean to brag but I designed the Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios.”  So cool!  It was seriously everything I wanted it to be and all the little details were amazing!  You seriously feel like you’re in one of the movies the whole time.

Ahhh! I know…I’ve really been slacking on my updates, hardcore.  With work and Thanksgiving ANNND two upcoming trips I feel like I haven’t had a chance to do anything fun lately, much less post on the blog.  So exhausted!  Basically my nights have consisted of watching Jem and the Holograms and being a lazy bum.  The only thing that keeps me going is my morning milk tea and mountain dew code red (the code red is for later in the day, I don’t drink them at the same time!).

I’m in love with Jeffrey Campbell’s The Damned line and these platformed wingtips, a collaboration with b.calla, were crucial to my life.  The real wood camo and that bright orange sole!  Did I mention they’re wingtips?  So good!  Best of all, they’re comfortable and easy to walk in!  I win all around!  Let me do note that if you want to get these, they say they run true to size but I usually wear a 7 and bought an 8 and I have no wiggle room.  If you plan on ordering them I suggest getting a size up!

Bum-bada-bum!  My new/used/possibly bootleg Jeremy Scott shirt is fixed!  And now that I’m thinking of it, I didn’t even snap a photo of the back where the patch is.  Oh well, just look at my previous post and visualize! It’s more fun that way.

Earlier in the day I had to run by the thrift shop with a few bags and I totally looked like a homeless child.  I usually look like some sort of homeless something or other so I wasn’t mad about it.  I looked like a floating head with tons of fabric and shit just gliding down the block.

As I’m typing this I’m also watching the episode of Jem and the Holograms – In Stitches and they just said the most profound thing about shoes I’ve ever fucking heard. “Shoes are really cool, you know!  You can have any kinda feet you want with shoes”.  Todays feet are little, comfy and ready to haul ass if needed.

This is the main reason I didn’t care if this shirt was a bootleg or not: the fucking sleeves!  So good right?  If anything I might just steal the pattern and make my own kimono sleeve tees.  The fit is super comfortable and the sleeves drape so nicely!  The only flaw I see in the design is that if you don’t have some sort of undershirt on you give a whole lot of side nip action whenever you move your arms.  Today I took care of that with a simple long sleeve basic tee!  I’ve really been appreciating basics lately.  They are like that friend that, even though everyone else thinks they’re boring you still stick with them and they’re always there to help you out when you need them!

This scarf was an impulse buy.  I don’t hate it but it’s completely shit quality and will probably get a huge snag in it soon.  That’s what you get for about 5$, so I can’t complain too much.  I do however like the aztec-y print and it’s extremely lightweight.

And now…the best part of my day…The My Little Pony Project 2012 exhibit (dun dada dun!)!  Some artists got the chance to paint and make beautimous some extra big My Little Pony toys.  I’m not totally sure what the reason for this was, but who cares!  It was awesome and all I could think about was the pony movie with the witch and her two daughter and the sludge!  I haven’t seen it in years (or since a month ago.), but it’s a goodie.  I took these photos last week so the ponies are no longer up (you snooze you lose, suckaaa!) but don’t worry!  I managed to snap I think all but one so you can just oogle them all right here, right now!

There was a special weave salon there too, so duh, I had to get some clipped in.  Thank you, super cute asian sister, for unleashing your braiding and clipping techniques on my head!  My clip in weave is totally reusable so one day it will go on another adventure with me.

The exhibit – fucking awesome!  One of the best art exhibits I’ve seen this year!  I mean, it’s My Little Pony.  How could you go wrong?

Odin for Target.

I do love some Odin.  And I do love some Target.  Who is the fucking genius that put the two together?  Can I shake their hand?  Can they get me a men’s Vivienne Westwood x Target Collaboration?  Below is a little sneak peek of the Odin for Target collection!

Odin has such great menswear and I think it’s supa dupa awesome they’re collaborating with Target!  I’m always really surprised with Target’s design collections because the quality is usually pretty good and the prices are never too crazy.  I do plan on making my sister get me the half plaid half white button down (She lives in North Carolina and nobody at her Target wants this stuff so she can shop without having to slap a bitch with a hanger).  The collection goes on sale September 9th so that’s plenty of time to switch to a full ramen diet to save for some new clothes!

Its beach day!  I usally only go to the beach a max of twice a year, if that.  I hate getting tan, I hate being hot, I hate wearing flip flops and the ocean is dirty (I’m at the Jersey Shore here, what would you expect?).  Now if you want to fly me off to some fancy islands to swim, I’m all about it, but I still pack my spf 90.

Shirt – Stussy / Shorts - Stephen Sprouse for Target / Hat – Stussy / Sunglasses – DVB / Flip Flops – Old Navy / Bag - Second Hand

Flip Flops are just fucking gross.  Even if you have pretty toes.  I only wear them to the beach or to go downstairs and take out the trash.  One thing I hate most in the world is how people wear them for a day out and about in the city.  NYC is so fucking dirty and when you walk around with flip flops your toes get all black in-between and you don’t know what kind of “elements” are out there!  That be some doo doo brown shit!  I especially hate when I see a flip flop wearers with a dry cracked heel.  Bitch, slap some lotion on that nastiness! Your heel looks like some dry ass french bread – the kind that cuts your throat!  Barf.  This is one of the rare times on this blog that you will see my feet so if you’re one of those foot pervs you better get your fix right now.

Sunglasses and Hats are really important for any beach endeavor.  People, we gotta take care of our skin!  Who wants to have a face so wrinkly and leathery that their mouth looks like an elephant butthole?  Clothing and fashion can come and go, but once your skin’s gone you’re totally fucked.  I use Anthelios daily SPF moisturizer on my face everyday, but if I’m out in the sun a lot I slap on some Neutrogena Helioplex on top of it for extra protection!  It’s good to protect your tattoos also.  Art needs to be preserved and constant exposure makes your work start fading and bleeding.  I don’t know about you but I spent too much money on tattoos already to have them get all janktastic.

I love these Sprouse shorts.  I just barely fit in them, probably because they’re a boys XL, but who cares!  I suck it in and go on my way.  They’re from his Americaland collection with Target way back when.  I have a second pair from that line and that’s probably all the Stephen Sprouse I’ll ever own.  Vintage Sprouse is so fucking expensive!  Even the Target line is pricey now.  I like to give them a roll or two to raise the hemline for some sezzy leg action.

The worst part of the day; somehow my favorite fucking suglasses broke! Why?!  Why wasn’t it my semi-favorites!?  I was going to take a close up picture but couldn’t bring myself to do it (instead you get a picture of a delicious beer!).  I bought my DVB aviators the day they launched from saks and they were the first designer sunglasses I ever paid full price for!  I’ve had them for years so I got my use out of them (as long as I wore them for more days than the dollar amount I paid for them I feel alright about it)…but still!  The lens cracked right down the fucking middle! And nobody can fix a single lens style.  Victoria beckham – girl, if you’re reading this can you have a little sympathy and re-release this style?  Thanks, boo.
